Quick Chicken And Lentil Curry Recipe



Japanese Curry has been one of my go-to comfort foods for years. So, recipe cooked properly, with noodles, using frsh spices, and at leats to my tatses, this was quite bland and one-dimensiional. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring regularly until browned. When the onions become soft and caramelized, add in a small amount of the spices (garlic, ginger, turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, and mushroom seasoning.) If you want a deeper colour to your curry, add in chili powder, and less turmeric.

The standard Japanese curry contains onions , carrots , potatoes , and sometimes celery , and a meat that is cooked in a large pot. Spoon the cooked rice onto serving plates, spoon over some sauce and top with the fried chicken pieces. NB: the curry blocks were once my secret weapon in the kitchen - but you can't expect the retail giant research teams to miss something this good, so the ingredient - once available in Japanese grocers only - it is now widely available.

If you want spiced lentil carrot soup on your rice and chicken then great, go for it. But if a classic katsu curry is what you're after then you're going to be thoroughly disappointed. Keep simmering and adding stock for 20-25 minutes until the chicken is cooked and you've added all the stock.

Dip the chicken into the egg again, and then coat with the panko for the second time. If you want the sauce a bit thinner, add some extra water. Mix the rice flour and panko, and spread out in a layer on a plate. Unlock the lid and add 1 Tbsp ketchup and 1 Tbsp soy sauce (if you use homemade curry, add it before ketchup and soy sauce.

Chicken takes a little longer to cook in the oil than the recipe suggests but will definitely make this again. While I'm not comparing this katsu curry to the 3-in-1, it does have similar qualities: spicy curry sauce and crispy chicken all served with sticky rice.
